Parent/Carer & Child Sessions

Inspired by the Steiner Waldorf and Pikler approach and aligned with the EYFS, our First Steps to 4 Years classes offer a calm, nurturing place to simply be. A peaceful pause from the noise and busyness of everyday life, these sessions invite young children and their carers to slow down, connect, and delight in unhurried play.

Each session includes:

  • Unhurried play indoors and outside, with time to explore, imagine, and move freely in our beautiful natural gardens

  • A gentle, predictable rhythm that brings comfort and confidence to young children

  • A seasonal craft or activity to enjoy together, nurturing creativity and connection

  • A shared wholesome snack, such as homemade bread with hummus and fresh fruit or vegetable sticks

  • Stories, puppetry, and songs to end the session, fostering imagination and a joyful sense of togetherness

About the sessions:
Our two-hour gatherings are inspired by the rhythm of a Steiner Waldorf Kindergarten morning—balancing movement, creative activity, and peaceful moments of togetherness. The thoughtfully prepared environment, with its open-ended natural materials, invites deep, self-directed play. While children explore at their own pace, parents and carers find space to pause, connect, and build community in a setting that honours the slow magic of childhood.

Our groups are predictable, following the same rhythm:

  • Outdoor freeplay in our large natural gardens

  • Optional season craft or activity

  • Indoor free play

  • Tidy up

  • A shared snack of wholesome foods— example, homemade bread, hommus and fruit/ veg sticks.

  • Puppet show and songs— Simple puppet show / finger puppet play/ story and a few nursery rhymes/ seasonal songs.

Examples of crafts/ activities

  • Painting

  • Baking apple crumble to take home for tea

  • Making a bird feeder to feed the birds in your garden

  • Creating a clay snail

What do I need to bring?

  • Your child will need wellington boots. It is advised that they also wear a waterproof coat and trousers.

  • All the family will benefit from bringing your slippers as our floors look beautiful, but they can be cold on your feet!

A Note on Toys from Home

At this age, little ones are still learning the art of sharing—and bringing toys from home can make this even trickier. To keep our play fair, we kindly ask that personal toys stay at home.

A request regarding phones

To help keep our space calm and connected for both children and adults, we kindly ask that mobile phones stay tucked away during sessions. You're very welcome to capture a special moment now and then—just please be mindful of the privacy of other families when taking photos/ video clips.

Food and Allergy Considerations

To help us keep everyone safe and cared for, please let Gemma know if anyone attending has any allergies. A healthy snack is provided during each session. If you choose to bring food from home, please remember to avoid nuts and be considerate of any allergies to keep our space safe and welcoming for everyone.
